This family moved from their country to the US seeking asylum. Unfortunately, Glenda suffered from domestic violence. The father of her children had an addiction and would torment not only her but the kids constantly with his yelling and abuse. After looking into ways of arriving to the US she finally took the initiative and found the courage to leave. She has family in Los Angeles, however, they were only able to provide her shelter for a short period of time as the home is very small. She hated the idea of a shelter for her kids, as they are so young and she feared not being able to provide for them, nevertheless, she became in contact with Wallis House through a referral and found that this felt like home to her and her kids. She often spoke about her fear of being found by her abuser and has filed a restraining order. She has placed her kids in tutoring and other extra curricular activities that were provided her at Wallis House. Her kids are doing amazing. Her dedication and strength has gotten her this far. She is currently working on her legal status and is working any jobs she can meantime. She hopes to soon find permanent housing.
